Updates

Dear Sponsors:

Here is an update on Cyclone Idai and its affect on our community.

On March 15th Cyclone Idai made landfall around Beira, Mozambique.  Beira is approximately 600 miles north of Xai Xai.  While I am happy to report that our school, church and communities were not impacted, it remains a very real tragedy for those affected.  Igreja Celebração is praying for those who have lost loved ones and for the many who have been displaced from Cyclone Idai.

In the coming days, Igreja Celebração plans to send members of our team to the affected areas to assess how we can get involved in the restoration phase.  Please join us in praying for those affected.

Thank you so much.

Dear Sponsor,

Great progress is being made to make REACH, our new Child Sponsorship software management tool, a platform for you to stay up to date with what is happening in Mozambique. Most of you have signed up and are now making your sponsorship contributions in REACH. Thank you! REACH will be the system we use to communicate with you going forward. Following is information on the enhancements we are making to the program and our go forward plan regarding giving gifts to your sponsored child.

REACH Program Enhancements
By now you are probably seeing enhancements we’ve introduced since moving to REACH. We are pleased to announce that we have begun to use the Updates and Albums features that appear at the top of your portal page.

The Updates tab is where we will post frequent updates on what’s happening in Mozambique. Try it out now. We’ve added a post about the children’s first day of school you may enjoy.

The Albums tab is currently being populated. We are busy loading the children’s yearly photos for every year they have participated in the program. It will be fun to see how your sponsored child has changed year over year. We hope to have all of the photos uploaded over the next month.

Gift Giving
Unfortunately, we are no longer able to collect and send gifts over to the children because of the amount of luggage and weight restrictions we face transporting the gifts with our mission teams. Instead, twice a year, we will open up a donation page for those who wish to contribute money. The first opportunity will be for the June 1st Children’s Day Party and again in November for their annual Christmas Party. Our Celebration team in Xai-Xai will make sure your sponsored child feels loved by throwing parties that express the love of Jesus and are packed with fun activities. Also, every child will receive a nice gift and meal before they go home.

Mark Your Calendar
On Saturday, June 15, we will be hosting an event for Brent and Cherry Shaw, our missionaries in Xai-Xai, while they are in the states. You will receive an invitation with more information at a later date.

We currently have 470 children participating in the Program and expect this number to increase as we add more classes to our school in Mozambique. Celebration Church is playing an important role in equipping the students to be godly leaders in their communities and to be in a position to influence and help others to come to the knowledge of Christ.

On behalf of Pastors Joe and Lori Champion, we are thankful for your prayers and the generosity you continue to show the Celebration children in Mozambique.

Blessings,

Merry Christmas!

We are finishing 2019 strong because of YOU, our sponsors, who pray and give so generously to our children in Mozambique.  As we come to the close of another great year, we would like to take a moment to celebrate with you some of the tremendous work God has done in 2018.

  • Our sponsorship kids are learning what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Every Wednesday they serve their community by visiting homes, praying with families and giving them a bar of soap and sugar or flour. We are seeing an increase in church attendance because of their visits.
  • Every child has the opportunity to learn about Jesus, receive a hot meal Monday through Friday and receives help with school supplies, uniforms and tutoring.
  • We rolled out our new software management system, which will offer you frequent updates about what’s happening in Xai-Xai and how you can be praying for what is needed.
  • Through your ongoing support, every child in the Celebration Sponsorship Program participated in our Christmas Party, received a personal care kit and toy, as well as enjoyed a healthy meal. Fun was had by all…including our loving staff who give their all to care for these children.

Here are a couple big wins for Escola de Campeões (School of Champions):

  • Grade 3 was added to the School of Champions and all grade levels had high test scores with a number of students in each class earning perfect scores in Math and Portuguese. It’s exciting to see how well our students are flourishing.
  • Brent, Cherry Shaw along with their two boys, Andrew and Jack said YES to God’s call for them to go to Mozambique to oversee the School of Champions and the Child Sponsorship Program.
  • We began construction on our third school building expected to be completed late February 2019. The new facility will provide six additional classrooms, a library and administration offices.

Today, we have 462 children in our program and another 30 will be added in January. The 30 children joining the program will be our new group of 4-year-olds who will also attend the Escola de Campeões (School of Champions). Our grade 3 students will promote to grade 4 and a teacher will join the staff to begin teaching English to all of our students.  Isn’t God good?

On behalf of Pastors Joe and Lori Champion, we thank you and pray for God to richly bless you for playing an important part in expanding His kingdom. Enclosed you will find a special letter that your child has written just for you. We pray this will be a blessing to you and your family.

We wish God’s best for you as we move into another year excited about what God will do for our kids in Xai-Xai and for you.  Happy New Year!
