Celebration Church’s Xai-Xai campus rests atop one of the many hills in Tembene, a developing community of Xai-Xai where there are many large, sandy hills decorated with coconut, mango, and other tropical types of trees. Over 95% of the population commutes by foot so there are many walking paths and dirt roads. About 50% of the population has electricity and most have access to running water, though many homes opt to continue to use the community well as the cost to connect to the main water line is very expensive. Houses made of cinder block are growing in number, but the community still consists mostly of homes made of small bamboo stems and tin roofs where well-groomed yards of sand are separated one from another by fences of thorn bushes.
